Drone Worth Half a Trillion Rupiah Destroyed as US Contractors and Soldiers Injured in Iran Retaliation
Kuwait City — Iran’s retaliatory ballistic missile strike targeting a Kuwaiti airbase on Saturday (30 May 2026) injured several US personnel. The incident also destroyed two MQ-9 Reaper combat drones amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Kuwait’s air defence system successfully intercepted the Fateh-110 missile, but debris from the missile struck Ali Al Salem Air Base, according to a source with direct knowledge of the incident. Citing Bloomberg reports via Straits Times, the source requested anonymity as details have not been publicly disclosed.
The source stated that approximately five people, including contractors and active military personnel, sustained minor injuries. One Reaper drone was completely destroyed, while at least one other suffered severe damage. Each drone is valued at around $30 million (approximately Rp534 billion). As of this report, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The attack followed US strikes on Iranian military sites in the port city of Bandar Abbas during indirect negotiations facilitated by Pakistan. President Trump is considering extending the ceasefire that has been in place since April, though both sides continue to engage in reciprocal attacks despite the truce.
On Friday (29 May 2026), Trump stated on social media that he was ready to make a “final decision” on the preliminary agreement. However, a two-hour meeting in the White House Situation Room that same day concluded without any official announcement from the president, according to a White House official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
