Driver Who Drove Against Traffic and Caused Collisions in Central Jakarta Carried a Toy Gun and a Machete
Police have revealed new information regarding the driver, HM (24), who drove against traffic and collided with several vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, yesterday. Police stated that the driver was carrying sharp weapons and a toy gun when searched.
“We conducted a search of the vehicle, and we found four pairs of license plates, two sharp weapons, a machete and a dagger, and a toy gun,” said the Head of Traffic at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Komarudin, when confirmed on Thursday (February 26, 2026).
Currently, the police are still investigating the cause of HM driving against traffic and colliding with several vehicles. He is still undergoing questioning at the Central Jakarta Metro Police.
“(The cause) is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the police,” he said.
Komarudin said the incident began when the car was driving recklessly from Senen towards Gunung Sahari. Then, officers chased the perpetrator and asked him to stop.
“Then the officers followed him into Gunung Sahari IV, so he turned and entered Gunung Sahari IV, there on that small road, at high speed, it was captured on the dashcam of the patrol car. From there, he turned left towards Bungur, the fatal incident occurred when he entered Gunung Sahari V, that road is one-way, from Pasar Baru to Bungur, it’s one way, he entered there and many vehicles almost became victims because there were many motorcycles, and he was still driving at high speed,” he said.
He said that HM did not stop when chased and instead continued to drive at high speed. The driver continued to move and turn around and returned towards Pasar Baru, according to him, the officers at the location were also almost hit by the car.
“The officers stopped at the intersection, in the middle of the road, he turned around again and went back to the intersection, then at the intersection, he turned left, which was already being guarded by officers, he almost hit our officers,” he said.
“Then he turned towards Ancol, he was asked to stop but he refused, then the officers continued to follow him, when he arrived near Ancol at the Pintu Besi traffic light, which was red, there was a queue, maybe he was blocked by the queue, but he actually turned around again towards Pasar Baru, on the same lane, not changing lanes,” he added.
