JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - HM (25), the driver of the black Toyota Calya car that was driving in the wrong direction on Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026), had just arrived in the capital city and was heading to Ancol, North Jakarta.

“That’s the information we have. Yes, the information is that the driver had just arrived in Jakarta and wanted to go to Ancol,” said the Head of Traffic at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Komarudin, in a video shared by the Traffic Unit of the Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police, Thursday (26/2/2026).

Meanwhile, a woman who was with HM in the car is said to be the perpetrator’s girlfriend.

According to information gathered by the Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police, HM is a man from Sidoarjo Regency, East Java.

On Thursday morning, Komarudin visited the Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police Office to follow up on the handling of the case committed by HM, which eventually went viral on Wednesday afternoon.

From the search, the police found several pieces of evidence in the car. HM was found carrying two sharp weapons, namely a machete and a dagger, as well as a toy gun.

In addition, there were four different vehicle license plates in the car.

“It was found that there were four different license plates,” said Komarudin.

For his actions, HM was charged with Article 311 paragraph (1), (2), and (3) of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (UU LLAJ).

“Under Article 311 paragraph 1, 2, 3, he faces a threat of imprisonment for up to 4 years and a fine of Rp 8 million,” said Komarudin.

Based on the evidence found, the case of the car driving in the wrong direction has been transferred to the investigators of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police.

According to Komarudin, this is to determine whether there is an indication that the car driven by HM would be used for criminal acts or not.

“This is what we are still investigating. Yes, we are still continuing to investigate. Until now, the person concerned is still being intensively questioned,” he said.
