Drain-like Excavation on Rasuna Said Street Causes Taxi to Sink
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The excavation hole from the revitalisation project on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, endangers drivers because it is not fully closed off with road barriers. Based on observations at the site, the hole extends like a drain with a depth of around 30 centimetres. The elongated hole is filled with brown water. The condition makes the hole appear not to be visible to passing motorists. Local resident Wahyu (23) said the distance between the concrete barriers previously reached about five metres. The condition means the excavation area can still be passed by vehicles. “Earlier, the concrete barriers were spaced far apart; there was about five metres between one barrier and another,” Wahyu said when interviewed by Kompas.com at the site on Sunday. He said the spacing of the barriers that is too wide could pose a danger to motorists who do not know there is a hole at the location. After all, a Bluebird taxi had briefly fallen into the hole. “I regret why it wasn’t fenced off, because it’s dangerous if people don’t know,” Wahyu said. However, Wahyu said the barriers are still not adequate and remain dangerous for road users. Earlier, a Bluebird taxi fell into a hole of the revitalisation project on Jalan HR Rasuna Said on Sunday (8 March 2026). The incident was captured on a mobile phone camera and widely shared on social media after being posted by the account @dki360 on the same day. In the posting, the taxi’s front wheel entered the hole and could not move.
