Jakarta — The DPR’s Legislation Body (Baleg) has confirmed that the Rancangan Undang-Undang Perlindungan Pekerja Rumah Tangga (RUU PPRT) will be enacted in 2026 after more than two decades of delay. “If this year is confirmed, yes. But for the month, I cannot estimate it,” said Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan at the DPR complex on Thursday (5 March 2026). Bob Hasan spoke after chairing a public hearing (RDPU) with several civil society organisations and domestic workers (PRT).

“Insyaallah April, 21 April, Tuesday, 2026,” said Rieke. “If Ms. Rieke wants Tuesday 21 April,” replied Bob.

Regardless of that, Bob emphasised that Baleg would continue RDPU with various stakeholders to absorb input for the policy’s drafting. “We indeed never stop consulting and continue to apply meaningful public participation in every lawmaking process,” he said. “Soon, on 10 March, this may be complemented with addressing shortcomings in several draft articles that have not yet been fulfilled.”

“Khususnya tentang PPRT ini, betapa pentingnya karena berliku-liku terkait dengan bagaimana perlindungan maupun juga penyelesaian, baik itu terhadap perselisihan, baik itu ada limitasi tentang upah, dan sebagainya,” he noted.

One issue still being explored in the RUU PPRT discussions is the mechanism for resolving disputes between domestic workers and employers. He said Baleg plans to invite the Ministry of Manpower to discuss a legal enforcement scheme through mediation. “Kita kan masih ada satu sangkutan dalam penyelesaian perselisihan. Kita sedang mengundang dari Kementerian Tenaga Kerja untuk membangun penegakan hukum dalam konteks bagaimana perselisihan tersebut diselesaikan melalui mediasi,” Bob said. He explained that the mediation would likely involve government agencies at the provincial level responsible for handling conflicts between workers and employers.
