DPR's Commission XII to Summon Bahlil to Discuss BBM Stock Amid Middle East Conflict
Jakarta — The XII Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) plans to hold a meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to specifically discuss the national fuel stock resilience amid the escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Deputy Chairman of Commission XII Putri Zulkifli Hasan said the discussion is on the agenda when Parliament returns from recess after the recess period ends on 10 March 2026.
“Yes, the recess is currently ongoing so members are in their constituencies, but once the session starts it will be scheduled to discuss issues of fuel stock resilience,” Putri said at the DPR building on Thursday (5/4/2026).
She said the government has prepared steps to strengthen national energy resilience, including increasing BBM storage capacity.
“Yes, yesterday we also witnessed that the Minister has conveyed direct guidance from the President that our storage will be expanded. At the moment our storage lasts only for 21 to 25 days,” Putri said.
She added that the plan to build larger BBM storage facilities is being explored by the government, including in Sumatra.
Putri said the current moment should be used to strengthen national energy resilience so Indonesia has adequate energy reserves.
“Yes, I think this is the right moment; energy resilience and energy self-sufficiency are very important so that we can have sufficient energy in Indonesia,” she said.
She also reminded that international reserve energy standards are much higher than Indonesia’s current BBM storage capacity.
“International rules call for about 60 days. Hopefully Indonesia can reach that in the future,” she concluded.
The situation is due to limited storage facility capacity domestically.
“Why not store more than 25 days? If we do that, where will we store it? The storage isn’t enough,” Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (4/3/2026).
