DPRD Jakarta Leaders on TransJakarta Fare Increase: Ensure Optimal Service First
Deputy Chairman of the Jakarta DPRD from the Gerindra Faction, Rani Mauliani, and Deputy Chairman from the NasDem Faction, Wibi Andrino, consider it reasonable for the TransJakarta fare increase to be under review. They propose the fare rise starting from Rp 4,000 to Rp 5,000.
Rani initially stated that adjusting public transportation fares is a reasonable matter. However, she asked that the adjustment take into account the public’s ability to pay.
“In principle, adjusting fares for public services like TransJakarta is indeed reasonable, especially after more than two decades without an increase, while operational costs continue to rise. However, this policy cannot be viewed solely from the cost perspective, but must prioritise the ability of the community as the main users,” said Rani when contacted on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Rani also advised that there must be an improvement in quality first if fares are to be raised. In addition, she said, service optimisation must also be maximised.
“I view that if there is indeed a plan for a fare increase, the DKI Provincial Government must ensure first that the service quality is truly optimal—from the aspects of punctuality, comfort, safety, to intermodal integration. Do not let the public be asked to pay more, but the service is not yet maximal,” she stated.
Then, Rani conveyed that ideally, the fare increase should not be too burdensome. She proposed the fare rise to Rp 4,000 to Rp 5,000.
“Regarding the amount of the increase, ideally it should be done gradually and measurably. An increase that is still relatively safe and not too burdensome, in my opinion, is in the range of Rp 4,000 to Rp 5,000, with the condition that there is still protection for certain community groups through subsidies or special fares. Most importantly, this policy must be accompanied by transparency in calculations, massive socialisation, and a targeted subsidy scheme. Do not let the fare increase actually reduce public interest in using public transportation, because this will impact traffic congestion and environmental quality in Jakarta,” she explained.
Then, Wibi Andrino also held the same view. According to him, the TransJakarta fare increase is reasonable because it has not changed for 20 years.
“The TransJakarta fare increase is reasonable to review, because it has not changed for 20 years while operational costs have risen. However, public transportation must still side with the people,” he stated.
He proposed the TransJakarta fare increase to Rp 5,000. According to him, the fare increase can be done gradually.
“If raised, I see the figure of around Rp 5,000 is still within reasonable limits, as long as it is done gradually and accompanied by service improvements,” he said.
TransJakarta Reviews Fare Increase
TransJakarta’s CEO, Welfizon Yuza, revealed that his side is currently reviewing the TransJakarta fare increase. He stated that the TransJakarta fare has not experienced an increase for 21 years.
This was revealed by Welfizon during a meeting with Commission B of the Jakarta DPRD at the DPRD Building, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (23/4). According to him, the TransJakarta fare has been Rp 3,500 since 2005.
“Regarding the fare increase. Of course, this is the domain of the executive or legislative, but we have conducted a review related to the fare increase which is currently still at Rp 3,500 since 2005, so approximately 21 years,” said Welfizon.
