DPR Warns Against Food Price Surges Ahead of Lebaran 2026

A member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rajiv, has urged the government to maintain stability in the supply and prices of staple foods ahead of Lebaran 2026. He said that the Ramadan to Idulfitri period is often followed by increased demand for staples such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, meat, and eggs, which could lead to price hikes. “Therefore, I urge regional governments and related agencies to ensure the distribution runs smoothly so that price increases that burden the public do not occur,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday (4/3).

Rajiv, who chairs Commission IV’s remit over agriculture, fisheries, and food, will continue to monitor the availability of food in his electoral district. He hopes local agricultural production can be the main support for the public’s needs, especially as demand rises. “I was entrusted by the people in Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency, and I will continue to monitor the state of food availability here. I will gather public aspirations to be conveyed to Jakarta (DPR RI),” he said.

He also disclosed that he had distributed as many as 30,000 basic food packages to the public during Ramadan and ahead of Idulfitri. The aid was distributed across several areas in Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency, West Java. The activity occurred during the DPR RI Recess for Session III of the 2025-2026 term, beginning in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency, West Java. “I will present a memento in the form of a basic food package; hopefully it can help ease the burden on residents of Ciparay. May it be beneficial in the Ramadan atmosphere,” Rajiv said.

Rajiv also noted that during his year in office he has delivered a range of programmes to the community, from the Indonesia Pintar Programme (PIP), aid for agricultural tools and machinery (Alsintan), cultivator, seed aid, to the bioflok aquaculture programme. He reminded farming groups receiving aid not to resell the aid, as it is intended to support agriculture in West Java so that the sector can advance and develop in the future. “I remind farming groups that receive aid not to resell it. It is for the community, for farmers so that agriculture in Ciparay can advance and develop,” he concluded.

In addition to the 30,000 basic-food packages, Rajiv also organised the Gerakan Pangan Murah (GPM) in Margaasih subdistrict, Bandung Regency, West Java. He hopes this initiative will help ease the burden on households observing Ramadan and ahead of Lebaran Idulfitri.
