The Indonesian Parliament’s Commission III plans to summon the Head of the Batam Prosecutor’s Office regarding the demand for a death sentence against Fandi Ramadhan, a crew member of the Sea Dragon Terawa, who was involved in a case of smuggling almost two tons of crystal meth. In addition to the Batam Prosecutor’s Office, Commission III will also summon investigators from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) who are handling the case. The summons is to request a comprehensive explanation regarding the handling of case number 863/Pid.Sus/2025/PN Btm.

“The handling of the case involving Fandi Ramadhan should apply the principles of justice as outlined in Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code,” said the Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament, Habiburokhman, at the parliament complex in Jakarta, Thursday.

The plan to summon the officials is the result of a public hearing between Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament, the legal team, and the family of Fandi Ramadhan.

Habiburokhman also requested that the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision reprimand and examine the Public Prosecutor from the Batam Prosecutor’s Office to be more careful in making statements in public. He highlighted statements made by the prosecutor accusing the Parliament of intervening in the case.

In addition, Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament also requested that the Judicial Commission (KY) monitor the process of handling the case in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

Previously, the Public Prosecutor from the Batam Prosecutor’s Office affirmed that they would maintain the demand for a death sentence against six crew members of the Sea Dragon Terawa in the case of smuggling nearly two tons of narcotics.

“In principle, as prosecutors, we will maintain the criminal charges that have been read on Thursday, February 5, 2026,” said Public Prosecutor Muhammad Arfian during the hearing in response to the defendant’s plea (reply) at the Batam District Court on Wednesday (February 25). (Ant/E-3)
