He said that Agrinas had previously presented information regarding the allocation of funds for the Merah Putih village cooperative project. However, the allocation did not explain in detail the type and specifications of the vehicles to be used.

“Because this has become a public issue, Commission VI is obliged to summon and request an explanation,” said Herman at the DPR, MPR, and DPD complex, Thursday, February 26, 2026.

He said he would summon Agrinas to ask for an explanation of the plan. The meeting will be held after the recess period of the DPR for the 2024-2029 period ends on March 9.

At a press conference on February 24, Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, said that the price of 4x4 pick-up trucks in the country was quite expensive and did not match the limited income of farmers.

According to Herman, even though the price of pick-up trucks in the country is quite high, the impact will be more positive for domestic economic growth. He reminded that this import policy must be coordinated with the DPR.

“With a large budget, it should be discussed first with the DPR to fulfill the principles of transparency and accountability,” said Herman.

Herman agreed with the statement by Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who asked that the plan to import 105,000 pick-up trucks be temporarily suspended.

“That various perspectives and budget absorption must be as optimal as possible, must be an opportunity for local businesses,” said the Secretary General of the Democratic Party.

The news of the import of pick-up trucks by Agrinas was announced by the Indian automotive company, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) on their company website on February 4, 2026.

M&M announced that it would supply 35,000 units of Scorpio pick-up trucks. Six days later, Tata Motors Limited announced plans to export 70,000 pick-up trucks to Indonesia.

Last Monday, Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that he had conveyed to the government to postpone the plan to import 105,000 vehicles from India for the needs of the Merah Putih Kopdes project.

At that time, Dasco said that President Prabowo Subianto was still on a working visit abroad. The President, he said, would also ask for opinions and assess the readiness of domestic companies regarding the plan to import Indian pick-up trucks.

“So we have conveyed the message to postpone it first. That’s it,” said Dasco, February 23, 2026.

Meanwhile, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota said that he would follow the request of the DPR and the government. “We will obey, be loyal to the country and the people,” said Joao in Jakarta, Monday.
