JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani has urged the government to evaluate the deployment of TNI soldiers in conflict zones following the deaths of three TNI personnel with UNIFIL in Lebanon.

“The government should evaluate the assignment of TNI soldiers in conflict areas,” said Puan during the DPR Plenary Session at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

She requested that the protection provided must align with international best practice standards in UN peacekeeping operations.

“This requires readiness in terms of politics, capacity, and the operational environment,” she stated.

She noted that they fell while carrying out a humanitarian mission in Lebanon.

Puan also emphasised the importance for relevant parties to conduct a credible investigation together with the UN to uncover objective facts.

“This effort is based on the core principles of UN peacekeeping missions, namely transparency, accountability, as well as respect for international law and human rights,” added Puan.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya affirmed that the government has no plans to withdraw TNI troops from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

However, the government is still conducting evaluations following the deaths of the three soldiers due to a military attack in the Israel-Lebanon conflict.

“There is no plan for that (withdrawal of troops). Evaluations continue, internal and external evaluations,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy when met at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026).

He conveyed that Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace is firmly stated in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution (UUD).

On the other hand, the importance of TNI soldiers’ security in peacekeeping missions has also been emphasised by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and Foreign Minister Sugiono.

“I think it has been firmly stated that in accordance with the fourth paragraph of the opening of the Law, to contribute to world order. So, we send troops there to maintain peace and we are firm on the existing evaluations,” said Teddy.
