Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 14th Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR), marking the closure of the Third Session Period of the 2025-2026 Parliamentary Year, approved Commission I’s report on the acceptance of a defence equipment grant from the Japanese government for Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence.

“Can Commission I’s report on the approval of the acceptance of an 18M Class Patrol Boat grant from the Japanese government be approved?” said DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, to which the members present at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday responded with their consent.

The Deputy Chairman of Commission I explained that in following up on DPR Deputy Speaker’s letter number T/30/PW.11.01/01/2026 dated 20 January 2026, Commission I had held a working meeting with the Minister of Defence, the TNI Commander along with the service chiefs of staff, and the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, 10 February 2026.

The meeting, he said, produced a strategic decision: Commission I approved the acceptance of an 18M Class Patrol Boat grant valued at 1.9 billion yen from the Japanese government for the Indonesian Navy through the Official Security Assistance (OSA) scheme, as proposed in the Minister of Defence’s letter to the DPR Speaker number B/2875/M/XI/2025 dated 24 November 2025.

“Commission I hopes that today’s plenary session can give its approval to the results of these deliberations, to be subsequently followed up in accordance with prevailing legislative mechanisms,” said Dave.

Previously, the Indonesian government and Commission I had agreed to accept the defence equipment grant in the form of a vessel valued at 1.9 billion yen from the Japanese government, after considering various aspects.

The agreement was the result of a closed working meeting between Commission I and the Ministry of Defence and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) held at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday 10 February.

“We have just held a meeting with Commission I, and essentially the government and the DPR have agreed to accept the grant from the Japanese government,” said Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Ermawan during a press briefing after the meeting.
