DPR: No Official Statement from Saudi Arabia on 2026 Hajj Postponement
Vice Chair of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, Abidin Fikri, has emphasised that to date there has been no official clarification from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the alleged postponement of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. Although Middle Eastern conflict continues to intensify, preparations for Indonesian pilgrims are assured to proceed as planned. This PDI-Perjuangan politician called on the public, particularly prospective pilgrims, to remain calm and not be influenced by unverified reports.
“Commission VIII remains optimistic that preparations for the 2026 Hajj will progress smoothly. There has been no official statement prohibiting the pilgrimage from Saudi Arabian authorities, as occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic previously,” said Abidin in a written statement on Wednesday (11 March).
Abidin stressed the importance of proactive measures by the Indonesian government in maintaining intensive communication with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is crucial to ensure clarity of information and guarantee the safety of pilgrims in the holy land.
He added that Commission VIII continues to oversee all stages of preparation, ranging from regulatory aspects, technical readiness, to financing conducted by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
“The public is urged to remain calm as there is no indication that conflict will disrupt the holy regions of Makkah and Madinah,” the legislator from East Java’s electoral district stated.
Although the situation remains monitored as safe, Abidin asked the government to strengthen coordination to anticipate any dynamic geopolitical developments. He affirmed that services to pilgrims must remain optimal, with no reduction in quotas or diminishment of facility quality.
“Commission VIII is committed to conducting strict oversight so that the 2026 Hajj can be carried out safely and comfortably. Our focus is on improving services for all Indonesian prospective pilgrims,” he concluded.
