DPR Members Highlight Green SM's "Green Taxi" Involvement in Bekasi Timur Train Tragedy
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Several members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) have highlighted the involvement of the electric taxi service Green SM, commonly referred to by the public as “Taksi Hijau,” in the train accident tragedy that occurred on Monday (27/4/2026) at Bekasi Timur Station in West Java.
They are urging the government to conduct an audit, a thorough investigation, and to consider revoking operational permits if serious violations are found.
“The evaluation must be comprehensive and transparent. If serious violations are found, firm action is needed, including temporary suspension of operations up to revocation of permits,” said Syafiuddin in his statement, quoted on Thursday (30/4/2026).
This includes the vehicle security system, driver operational standards, and fleet worthiness.
“This series of events indicates serious issues, both from the vehicle technical side, operational system, and safety aspects,” said Syafiuddin.
However, he reminded that safety aspects must not be compromised.
“We certainly support environmentally friendly transport innovations. However, safety aspects cannot be negotiated. Technology must not become a threat to the public,” he concluded.
In agreement, Member of Commission V of the DPR RI, Daniel Mutaqien, requested the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) to conduct the audit and investigation process into the operations of Green SM Taxi transparently.
“The audit and investigation must be conducted transparently and accountably,” said Daniel.
Daniel assessed that openness is important to answer public questions regarding the initial cause of the accident allegedly involving the taxi at the level crossing.
“One of the main focuses is the operations of the green taxi from Green SM Indonesia which was at the incident location,” he said.
“Therefore, further deepening is needed to ensure whether there are operational standard violations that contributed to this incident,” Daniel added.
