Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of the DPR’s Commission III, Abdullah, urged the police not to be slow in handling the case of a Diponegoro University student named Arnendo who was beaten by 30 people, resulting in serious injuries. He said that the slow handling of the case raises questions in society. He stated that the incident occurred on 15 November 2025 and, to date, there has been no suspect named, although the victim sustained a broken nose and a concussion from the assault. “Almost five months have passed since the assault occurred, but there have been no sanctions against the perpetrators and no suspects named. Is this a form of tolerance for violence?” Abdullah said in Jakarta on Thursday. He emphasised that delays in handling the case could erode public trust in law enforcement. The state, he said, has a duty to provide fair legal protection to every citizen without discrimination. Additionally, he touched on the victim’s economic background. It must not be the case that the case is overlooked simply because the victim is the son of a nasi goreng seller. He reminded both the police and Undip that the principle of equality before the law must be upheld consistently. He argued that law enforcement must not be influenced by someone’s social or economic background. Furthermore, he asserted that the allegations of sexual harassment levelled at Arnendo should be investigated objectively and based on solid legal evidence. Every accusation, he said, must be processed through a fair legal mechanism, not settled through mob justice. “If sexual violence did occur, of course the perpetrators must be processed in accordance with the applicable law. However, all allegations must be proven objectively through the legal mechanism, not through lynching or vigilante action,” he added.
