JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, Maman Imanul Haq, has spotlighted the proposal for a Hajj ticket auction scheme put forward by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj). He cautioned that the scheme could lead to injustice due to ongoing disparities in internet and technology access in many regions. “What about communities in remote areas with limited internet? Must they lose their right to depart simply because they lose in the speed of clicking? This must be a serious concern,” Maman stated in his remarks on Tuesday (14/4/2026). Therefore, he called on the government to conduct a comprehensive study regarding the Hajj ticket auction proposal. Maman stressed that the scheme must not sacrifice prospective Hajj pilgrims who have been queuing for years. “We urge the government to re-examine the Hajj ticket auction proposal. It’s a pity for prospective pilgrims who have been queuing for over a decade and are scheduled to depart in two or three years, only to be displaced by this system. Policies must favour justice for pilgrims, not just a race of speed,” Maman said. Rather than the Hajj ticket auction scheme, he encouraged the government to strengthen diplomacy with Saudi Arabia to increase Indonesia’s Hajj quota. “This ticket auction system risks creating new injustices. The government should focus on long-term solutions and transparency in queue data to avoid unrest in society. The state must act as a protector of pilgrims’ rights, not create new barriers to worship,” Maman stated. The statement was delivered at the Opening of the National Coordination Meeting for the Consolidation of Hajj Worship 1447 H/2026 AD, at the Tangerang Hajj Dormitory, on Wednesday (8/4/2026). The Hajj queue stems from the increasing number of registrants each year coupled with quota limitations. The government, according to Irfan, is beginning to review the existing system to find solutions to address this long queue issue.
