Jakarta (ANTARA) - Rikwanto, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), believes that the Draft Law (RUU) on the Confiscation of Assets Related to Criminal Acts needs to regulate the establishment of a special body to manage seized assets resulting from confiscation.

“Do not let it happen that when seized, its value is around Rp100 million and becomes state wealth, but over time it drops to Rp1 million due to depreciation and other factors,” said Rikwanto during a Hearing of General Opinions (RDPU) at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, such regulation is important to prevent a significant decline in asset value due to suboptimal management. The special body, he said, could be under the prosecutor’s office, outside the prosecutor’s office, or in another form as discussed in the RUU.

On the other hand, he emphasised that the implementation of those rules must still be guided by constitutional rights, namely that every action must be based on law.

“So it’s not just that suddenly someone is suspected of having ‘wow’ income like that, then it’s considered strange, then guessed, inventoried on their own, and then efforts are made to confiscate assets. It’s not like that,” he said.

“It must be balanced between the state’s authority and citizens’ constitutional rights. This is the guideline in the discussion of the RUU on Asset Confiscation,” he stated.
