DPR Member: Involvement of TNI in LPDP Briefing Programme Needs Re-evaluation
JAKARTA - A member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Tubagus Hasanuddin, has assessed that the involvement of the TNI in the briefing programme for recipients of scholarships from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) needs to be re-evaluated.
“The involvement of the TNI in this context needs to be re-examined. We must ensure that every state institution operates in accordance with its primary duties and functions,” Hasanuddin stated in a written release on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
Hasanuddin reminded that the duties of the TNI are regulated under Law No. 3 of 2025 on amendments to the TNI Law, including the framework for Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP), which encompasses 16 types of tasks.
“The more frequently the TNI is involved in matters outside of defence, the concern is that it will impact the consistency and commitment in carrying out its main duties,” he said.
He assessed that the briefing for LPDP scholarship recipients should be aligned with the primary objective of the programme, which is to produce superior human resources in academic and scientific fields.
Hasanuddin stated that values such as discipline, leadership, and love for the homeland do not necessarily have to be instilled by the TNI, but can be embedded through various approaches that are more contextual to the world of education.
“We need to ensure that every programme runs on target, is effective, and remains within the framework of good governance,” he expressed.
The TNI will provide briefing to LPDP scholarship recipients or awardees.
This involvement is manifested through support from the Air Force TNI in facilitating the Departure Preparation (PK) programme held by LPDP at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, from Monday (4/5/2026) to Saturday (9/5/2026).
This programme is attended by prospective and current LPDP scholarship recipients at the master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) levels, both for studies in Indonesia and abroad.
In this programme, participants receive materials focused on strengthening mental readiness, discipline, leadership, as well as instilling values of love for the homeland and character building.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the involvement of the TNI in the briefing is necessary to strengthen nationalism and love for the country.
“So, mainly, to make their mentality strong, love for the country, and be able to return here and contribute their knowledge here,” Purbaya said, quoted from Antara, on Monday (4/5/2026).
