DPR Member: Health Minister Shouldn't Just Talk – Citizens Still Denied Hospital Services
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives Irma Chaniago has asked the Health Minister (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin to monitor hospital services for the 11 million participants of the Premium Assistance Recipients (PBI) of BPJS Health who were temporarily deactivated.
This is because Irma received reports that there are still citizens who do not receive healthcare services because their BPJS Health status is still temporarily deactivated, even though Budi has issued a circular regarding the matter.
“So, the Minister shouldn’t just talk about issuing a circular; you issued the circular, but in fact, the hospitals do not follow up on that circular. Who is responsible for the oversight?” said Irma during the Commission IX House of Representatives meeting with the Health Minister at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
This NasDem Party politician stated that Budi must create solutions so that all citizens continue to receive healthcare services.
In addition, Irma also asked the National Social Security Council (DJSN) to give the same attention to this issue.
“So, if earlier it was stated that DJSN said ‘if there are people in emergency who come to the hospital, they can still be paid and served’, that’s what you say, but the hospitals say no, the hospitals don’t accept it, sir,” she explained.
It is known that 11 million PBI BPJS Health participants were temporarily deactivated at the beginning of 2026.
This caused many citizens to not receive healthcare services, including patients suffering from catastrophic illnesses.
The government then carried out the reactivation process.
“So, the total who remain active as BPJS Health participants through various segments from the 11 million is 2,155,665 beneficiaries,” said Saifullah, during the Commission XI House of Representatives meeting.
Meanwhile, Budi assured that all deactivated PBI BPJS Health participants still receive healthcare services.
Budi also emphasised that the other 9 million participants are still served even though their BPJS Health status is temporarily inactive.
“So, the Ministry of Health has issued a letter for these 11 million people, in accordance with the House of Representatives agreement, if they are ill and come to the hospital, they will be served,” said the Health Minister.
