DPR Member: DPR Intelligence Oversight Team Can Investigate Acid Spraying Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives’ Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, stated that the House of Representatives has an Intelligence Oversight Team that can delve into the acid spraying case against the activist who is also the Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, given the alleged involvement of intelligence apparatus.
“Because the perpetrator is suspected to come from BAIS elements, which is part of the intelligence apparatus, its handling cannot be considered an ordinary case. This concerns public trust in state institutions,” said TB Hasanuddin in Jakarta on Monday.
He explained that the team was formed by Commission I of the House of Representatives, consisting of permanent overseers representing each political party faction and the commission leadership. The team, he said, has been approved and sworn in during a plenary session of the House of Representatives and has the obligation to maintain intelligence secrecy in accordance with legal provisions.
The formation of the team, he said, is in line with Article 43 of Law Number 17 of 2011 on State Intelligence, which states that there is a clear oversight mechanism for the implementation of intelligence, both internally and externally.
Internal oversight, he said, is carried out by the leadership of each intelligence agency. Meanwhile, external oversight is carried out by the commission in the House of Representatives that specifically handles the intelligence sector, in this case Commission I of the House of Representatives.
“With that basis, Commission I of the House of Representatives has the authority to summon related parties, including the government and TNI institutions, to request explanations and encourage a comprehensive investigation into this case,” he said.
He emphasised that this case must be handled transparently, professionally, and accountably.
Law enforcement, he said, must be carried out firmly and without favour towards anyone proven to be involved, to maintain the integrity of institutions and ensure justice for the victim.
“The state must be present to provide legal certainty. Whoever the perpetrator is must be processed according to the applicable law,” he said.
