Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, Abdullah, stated that he disagreed with former President Joko Widodo's claim that the revision of Law No. 19 of 2019 on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was solely a DPR initiative, despite Jokowi not signing it.

During the deliberation process at the time, Jokowi sent a team representing the government to discuss the KPK law revision. This means the revision was jointly deliberated by the DPR and the government.

"In accordance with Article 20, Paragraph 2 of the 1945 Constitution, which states that every draft law shall be deliberated by the House of Representatives and the President for mutual approval," Abdullah said in Jakarta on Monday.

Furthermore, he noted that constitutionally, Jokowi's decision not to sign the revised KPK law did not amount to a rejection of it.

"Because under Article 20, Paragraph 5 of the 1945 Constitution, a law remains in force 30 days after its enactment, with or without the President's signature," he said.

Previously, Jokowi had expressed support for former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad's proposal to revert the KPK law to its earlier version. Jokowi suggested that the current version of the KPK law was the result of a DPR initiative.

Jokowi said the KPK law was revised during his presidency at the initiative of the DPR, and that he did not sign the resulting legislation.

The process of drafting the KPK bill at the time was highly contentious and sparked widespread demonstrations. Protesters coined the term "Reformasi Dikorupsi" (Reform Corrupted) in opposition to the enactment of the new KPK law.
