DPR Legislative Body Aims to Pass RUU PPRT This Year
The Legislative Body (Baleg) of the DPR targets the Rancangan Undang-Undang Perlindungan Pekerja Rumah Tangga, or RUU PPRT, to be enacted this year. Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan said the agency continues consultations and opens public participation in drafting the RUU PPRT.
“If this year is confirmed as the year, then yes. But as for the month, I cannot estimate it like that,” Bob Hasan said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (5/3/2026).
Bob said they will resume discussions once the DPR session begins on 10 March. He hopes the various inputs received can help refine the draft of the RUU PPRT.
“We have never stopped consulting and always apply meaningful public participation in every lawmaking process. Especially regarding PPRT, this is important due to the complexities surrounding protection as well as resolution,” he said.
The Gerindra politician assured that all public aspirations will be accommodated in the RUU PPRT. He said they will also invite the Ministry of Manpower during the discussion.
“Almost certainly all will be accommodated. But do not be mistaken that when we talk about accommodating content, the sentences will be exactly the same. Of course, everything that forms the hopes behind those opinions will be included in the substantive content,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Lita Anggraini, National Coordinator of the National Advocacy Network for Domestic Workers (Jala PRT), urged that the RUU PPRT be enacted promptly. She said the regulation is urgently needed to prevent violence and discrimination.
“As soon as possible, given the urgency to prevent violence, discrimination against domestic workers, and it has been awaited for 22 years,” she said.
“If there is no more RDP, we will move straight to a plenary for the articles and proceed to initiative. We hope the leaders of the DPR, the Speaker, will approve it to become an initiative bill, to be discussed with the government soon, and become law,” she added.
