DPR: Increase in JKN Contributions for Independent Participants Should Not Be Implemented in the Near Future
A member of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Edy Wuryanto, believes that increasing JKN contributions for independent participants should not be implemented in the near future. He reminded that the economic conditions of the people are still under pressure, and the promise to eliminate outstanding contributions for independent participants since October 2025 has not yet been fulfilled.
“It is important that the elimination of outstanding contributions is realized first while considering the economic conditions. It is important that the policy is consistent and fair,” said Edy, Thursday (February 26).
For participants who receive wages, Edy believes that the adjustment mechanism has actually been running naturally through the increase in minimum wages and the increase in wages above the minimum wage each year.
“The contributions of participants who receive wages have also increased along with the increase in their income. So we need to look at the overall membership structure before making a decision,” he said.
Furthermore, Edy emphasized that the root of the JKN financing problem also lies in the management and control of healthcare costs. He encouraged strengthening the negotiation of drug and medical device prices and improving the claims system to be more efficient and accountable.
“Increasing contributions without reforming management will only be a short-term solution. What we need is a systemic improvement so that JKN is sustainable and fair,” he said.
Edy stated that the PDI Perjuangan faction supports the sustainability of JKN with a careful and people-oriented approach.
“JKN is an instrument of social justice. Its sustainability is important, but every policy must be transparent, proportional, and not sacrifice people’s purchasing power,” he concluded. (Iam/I-1)
