DPR Hajj Oversight Committee Proposes More Health Staff for Pilgrims
JAKARTA — Netty Prasetiyani, a member of the DPR’s Hajj Oversight Committee (Timwas), has proposed increasing health staff for Indonesian pilgrims in the Holy Land for next year’s Hajj.
‘For next year, the quota of health personnel for Hajj must be increased both at the kloter level and within the Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) in Saudi Arabia,’ Netty stated on Monday, 25 May 2026.
She explained that current Hajj staff are divided into PPIH kloter, also known as Hajj Health Personnel (TKHK), and non-kloter PPIH. The kloter PPIH consists of four members: the group leader, religious guide, doctor, and nurse.
Non-kloter PPIH, known as Local Hajj Officers (PHD), comprise two officers assigned to each district or city of origin for pilgrims.
According to her report, there are 1,050 TKHK and 199 non-kloter PPIH staff for 2026, totalling 1,249 Hajj personnel.
These staff must serve Indonesia’s 221,000 Hajj pilgrims this year.
Netty noted that 22% of pilgrims are elderly, 0.18% are persons with disabilities, and 7,488 use wheelchairs.
‘Some elderly pilgrims and others fall into the high-risk category with chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and even some with cancer,’ she said.
‘The current number of 199 health PPIH staff and 1,050 TKHK is not an ideal ratio to serve pilgrims facing challenges such as health issues, accommodation locations, socio-cultural aspects, extreme heat, overcrowding, and others,’ Netty added.
