Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives will hold a meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to discuss the availability of fuel (BBM) in the wake of tensions between the United States and Israel with Iran. The meeting will take place as Parliament has entered its session period. ‘Yes, it happens that we are currently in recess, so members are in their electoral districts, but once the session begins the meeting will be scheduled to address the issue of fuel security,’ said Putri Zulhas, Deputy Chairman of Commission XII, when contacted at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, on Thursday 5 April 2026. She stated that energy security is an important issue to discuss. Putri reminded of the current conditions of rising geopolitical tensions which could affect energy supplies. The head of the PAN DPR faction said the government has also prepared preventive steps to strengthen national energy security. One of them is to increase capacity or storage of BBM. ‘Yes, yesterday we also saw, the Minister has said that direct guidance from the President is that our storage will be expanded. Right now our storage is only sufficient for about 21 to 25 days,’ Putri said. She added that the government is currently exploring building a larger BBM storage facility, with one location planned in Sumatra. ‘So in the future we will build a larger storage facility, possibly in the Province of Sumatra is being explored first,’ Putri said. She argued that this moment must be used to strengthen national energy security. She hopes Indonesia can have adequate energy reserves. ‘Yes, I think this is indeed the right moment. Energy security, energy self-sufficiency are very important so that we can have adequate energy in Indonesia,’ she said. ‘If we refer to international rules, it is 60 days. In the future, hopefully Indonesia will be able to meet that standard,’ she added. Watch also the video ‘Bahlil Explains Indonesia’s BBM Reserves Can Only Hold 20 Days’.
