Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) will hold a meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to discuss the availability of fuel (BBM) in the context of the United States–Israel–Iran tensions. The meeting will be held as the DPR enters its plenary session.

‘Yes, it just so happens that we are currently in recess, so the members are still in their electoral districts, but once the plenary session begins, the matter will be scheduled promptly for a meeting to discuss BBM resilience,’ Deputy Chair of Commission XII Putri Zulhas told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, on Thursday (5 April 2026).

She said energy security is an important issue to discuss. Putri raised the current situation where geopolitical tensions are heightening and could affect energy supply.

The chair of the PAN faction in the DPR said the government has also prepared anticipatory steps to strengthen national energy resilience. One of them is to expand BBM storage capacity.

‘Yes, yesterday we also observed that the Minister has stated that the instruction directly from the President is to expand our storage. Our current storage is only enough for 21 to 25 days,’ Putri said.

The plan to build a larger BBM storage facility is being explored by the government. One of them would be located in the Sumatra region.

‘Therefore, in the future storage will be built larger, and Sumatra Province is being explored first,’ Putri said.

She said this momentum must be used to strengthen national energy resilience. She hopes Indonesia can have adequate energy reserves.

‘This is indeed the right momentum; energy resilience and energy self-sufficiency are very important so that we can have sufficient energy in Indonesia,’ she added.

‘If we refer to international norms, it is 60 days. Going forward, we hope Indonesia can reach that,’ she added.
