DPR Commission X Urges Thorough Investigation into Alleged Sexual Harassment and Beating at Undip
Chairperson of DPR RI Commission X Hetifah Sjaifudian expressed concern over the beating case carried out by 30 Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) students against another student, Arnendo (20). Nevertheless, Hetifah urged that the sexual harassment allegedly committed by Arnendo should also be thoroughly investigated.
‘The violence case, which occurred on a campus, and this time at Undip, is certainly very concerning. If it is true that there is an alleged sexual harassment of a female student, then it must be handled seriously and thoroughly,’ Hetifah said when contacted on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
Nevertheless, she noted that beating the victim for any reason cannot be justified. Therefore, she urged an objective investigation into both the sexual harassment and the beating.
‘On the other hand, acts of beating or violence cannot be justified under any circumstances. Therefore, the university should conduct an objective inquiry into both incidents, relating to the alleged harassment and the beating against the perpetrator,’ she said.
Hetifah then referred to Permendikbudristek No. 55/2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education. She emphasised that the rule remains in force.
‘Based on this regulation, the Police, in cooperation with the campus PPK Task Force, must investigate the two acts of violence, namely to investigate the alleged harassment that Arnendo is accused of and the beating of the perpetrator, as it is also a criminal act, and there is no justification for vigilante justice,’ she explained.
‘The handling process must proceed objectively in line with the regulation, while the campus should simultaneously reinforce its system for preventing and handling violence of any kind, and develop a more effective mechanism for resolving student conflicts, to prevent a recurrence,’ she added.
‘The beating victim had previously been reported for alleged harassment’
‘The beating victim, Arnendo (20), who was assaulted by 30 Undip students, had previously been reported to campus authorities for alleged harassment. He had been reported by three female students before the beating.’
According to detikJateng, on Thursday, 5 March 2026, Nurul Hasfi, Director of the Directorate of Media Networking, Community and Public Communication at Undip, said Arnendo had been reported by three female students to the Dean’s Office.
‘Yes, we received reports from the Dean’s Office that the person concerned committed sexual harassment against three female students,’ Nurul said.
