The issue of the Double-Double Track (DDT). The DDT does not require waiting for KNKT recommendations. There is indeed a need to separate the outer-city fast lines from the intra-city rail line. That is the conclusion, so there really should be no discussion; it’s already okay, as said by Huda when approached by reporters at the Indonesian House of Representatives, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, 21 May 2026. He said around 17 kilometres of track need to be repaired and emphasised that the lines should be worked on immediately. “The DDT, roughly in the Jakarta area, is about 17 kilometres. So there should be no more talk of lack of funds; Mr President has allocated Rp 7 trillion. Rp 7 trillion, I think, is specifically for the Jabodetabek corridor during the high season; we should immediately proceed with DDT construction to separate the lines,” he said.

“Handling of level crossings”

In addition, Huda responded to discussions about who should be responsible for the level crossings following the derailment and the KRL at Bekasi Station. He called for the central government to take over the work. He initially acknowledged that level crossings should be the responsibility of the city or regional administrations (Pemkot, Pemkab, Pemprov). In his view, that is not the responsibility of KAI. “The level crossing mandate is not with KAI. So the mandate is that if the crossing crosses a provincial road, then it is the responsibility of the Provincial Government. If the line is at the district/city level, then it’’s the district/city government,” said Huda.

Nevertheless, Huda said there is no need to argue about it any longer. He urged the Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) to take over. “But we want there to be no more of that; I am among those who push for everything to be taken over by the centre, to be takeover. By whom? The Kemenhub,” he said.

He stressed that local governments may not have the funds to repair crossings. Therefore, he argued that the central government should handle all crossings. “If this just keeps getting bounced around, the Provincial Government may not have funds, is that right? The District/City Government may not have funds either. The challenge is indeed heavy; we have 3,700 level crossings across Indonesia, nearly 2,500 in Java,” he said.

Direction from Prabowo

President Prabowo Subinato previously stated that the government would repair all level crossings following the derailment involving the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi City. Initially, Prabowo said there were 1,800 crossings like Bekasi on Java Island. “Then, in Java there are 1,800 such crossings; I think since the Dutch era, it’’s been decades,” Prabowo said at RSUD Bekasi on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.

Prabowo ordered his ministers to repair all crossings. He said the repairs would start with guard posts, and whether or not to build a flyover will be determined. “Now, let’’s finish all that; I have already commanded that we will repair all these crossings, whether through guard posts or flyovers, and we will appoint the implementer,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo said the repairs would cost around Rp 4 trillion. He emphasised that the repairs should be carried out immediately. “We estimate it at almost Rp 4 trillion for safety and because rail transport is very important to us; now is the time to do it, after several decades,” he said.
