Jakarta — Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission I, Dave Laksono, said that the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ move to raise its readiness status to ‘Siaga 1’ reflects a strong commitment to safeguarding national security. He noted that it also demonstrates the readiness of defence authorities to respond to global dynamics, and provides reassurance to the people that the state is present with full responsibility. Developments in the Middle East currently require vigilance. ‘Commission I DPR views this policy as part of a strategy to strengthen the nation’s resilience,’ Dave said when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday. He stated that the synergy between the TNI, the Defence Ministry, and Commission I is a crucial foundation so that every step taken remains aligned with the people’s interests, is conducted transparently, and can build public trust. Moreover, he said the effort to enhance readiness is a concrete manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining domestic stability with confidence. With solid inter-agency coordination, he believes the nation will remain safe, stable, and capable of facing global challenges with a spirit of togetherness and high optimism. He emphasised that Commission I DPR will support the TNI’s anticipatory steps and will continue to exercise its oversight function and strategic partnership. ‘With close collaboration, we are confident Indonesia can face global dynamics with heads held high, maintain national stability, and strengthen public trust in state institutions,’ said the chair of the commission that oversees defence matters. Previously, information circulated among the public about a Telegram from the TNI Commander with number TR/283/2026. The Telegram purportedly contains orders for Siaga 1 readiness for all TNI units to anticipate escalation of conflicts in the Middle East. There were seven points listed in the telegram. One point reportedly demanded the Chief of the Main Operational Command (Pangkotamaops) to mobilise personnel and main weapon systems within its area of responsibility and to conduct patrols at strategic vital objects (obvit) and economic centres. This included airports, ports (sea/river), train stations, bus terminals, and PLN offices.
