DPR Chair Puan Maharani has urged the government to promptly prepare mitigation measures to anticipate the economic impact of the escalating conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran. Puan stressed that the heating global situation must not burden the public, especially as preparations for Eid al-Fitr begin.

“The DPR has begun its session, and the relevant commissions will subsequently request the government to implement mitigation measures so that the 2026 state budget can be adjusted to the current global situation,” Puan said at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (10 March).

Puan warned the government not to use Middle Eastern tensions as an excuse to allow increases in transportation costs and domestic food prices, particularly ahead of Eid al-Fitr. According to her, the standard cost of mudik (homecoming travel) and food supply availability are core government responsibilities that must be handled with great care.

“Whatever policies the government implements, they must not burden or oppress the public. Whether related to transportation costs, basic necessities, or other matters ahead of Eid al-Fitr, this is the government’s responsibility,” Puan asserted.

Puan stated that the DPR will summon relevant ministries to ensure all risks have been anticipated. She does not want any sudden policies or food shortages to occur due to insufficient anticipation of global conflict impacts.

“The DPR’s duty is to oversee. In the two weeks leading up to Eid, we are requesting the government to implement all best mitigation and anticipation measures. We cannot allow anything to go unmitigated such that it burdens the public, whether related to food, transportation, and other matters,” concluded the PDI Perjuangan politician.
