Jakarta — The Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that all political parties remain engaged in detailed discussions regarding revisions to the Bill on Amendments to Law No. 7 of 2017 on General Elections (Electoral Law Bill).

According to her, political parties have engaged in discussions with the government, both formally and informally, to ensure that changes to the law produce positive outcomes moving forward.

“Both formally and informally, we have conducted detailed discussions to determine what is truly best to implement during the 2029 general election,” Puan said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.

Nevertheless, she noted that the DPR RI will remain focused on overseeing all government policies and programmes to ensure they run effectively. In particular, she stressed that public welfare must be achieved in accordance with expectations.

She stated that the legislative and executive branches must work synergistically for the benefit of the people.

“Given the current geopolitical situation, we are not yet thinking about 2029 politics; we are focusing on public matters first,” she said.

The DPR’s Commission II has begun processing the Electoral Law Bill by inviting various stakeholders to provide input on the electoral system, which will serve as material for the bill. The Electoral Law Bill has been included in the National Legislative Programme (Prolegnas) Priority for 2026, which will be discussed by Commission II of the DPR RI.
