The House of Representatives (DPR) and the government have concluded a Coordination Meeting on Post-Disaster Handling for Sumatra at the Nusantara Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 25 February 2026. The DPR and government agreed on several matters during the meeting.

“We have discussed the Master Plan for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Post-Disaster Sumatra, which has been approved by Bappenas, and thankfully the budget has been approved by the government. Therefore, we coordinated to ensure that rehabilitation and reconstruction activities, as well as the technical work plans of ministries and agencies, proceed smoothly,” said Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Chairman of the DPR’s Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force and Deputy Speaker of the DPR, during a press conference.

The Chairman of the Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for Sumatra, also Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, reported two matters during the meeting: first, the current situation update; second, the government’s future plans, particularly the approval of the Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Master Plan for Post-Disaster Sumatra.

Tito explained that the first step the government takes after a disaster is emergency response. All ministries, agencies (K/L), and local governments operate under President Prabowo Subianto’s command. He claimed the mitigation was well-managed.

Following this, he said the Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for Sumatra was established on 8 January 2026. Tito stated coordination was conducted with all ministries, agencies, and local governments.

“This progress is satisfactory. District governments that were previously non-operational are now functioning. Subdistricts are operational. Some village offices were affected, but operations are ongoing, though some remain in temporary shelters (hunian sementara), village head residences, and other locations,” Tito said.

The former police chief confirmed electricity, fuel, and internet services are functioning smoothly, except for some isolated villages due to landslides, particularly in Central Aceh and Central Tapanuli.

“Hospitals and health centres are generally in good condition, but will be optimised further by the Health Minister. Some auxiliary health centres remain problematic,” Tito said.

He noted national roads and bridges are connected, though challenges remain in Aceh (Bireun to Gayo Leus) and North Sumatra (Central Tapanuli).

“However, in West Sumatra, all is smooth. National bridges are functional, albeit using Bailey, pioneer, Armco, or suspension bridges, but they serve mobility needs. Some local bridges remain unrepaired,” Tito said.

The former BNPT chief then detailed education at 4,922 schools across three provinces. Tito said some schools are conducting classes in tents.

“Particularly in areas requiring relocation, which we discussed regarding readiness of relocation sites. Some are using other schools, others in emergency classrooms. A few cases remain, but the majority are back in their own schools. These are positive developments, including temporary shelters provided by BNPB,” Tito said.

He further stated the government will proceed towards permanent recovery, launching the Master Plan for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Post-Disaster Sumatra.

“The master plan was compiled from all districts, provinces, and ministries. After alignment by Bappenas and the task force, it will be completed within three years: 2026, 2027, and 2028,” Tito said.

A total of 11,512 activities, including road and bridge construction, schools, and others, will be prioritised and initiated this year.

“We have proposed and, thankfully, received approval. I reported this to the DPR task force led by Professor Dasco, who also supported it. The total value is Rp100.166 trillion over three years,” Tito said.

“For 2026, it totals Rp38.9 trillion, followed by Rp32.9 trillion in 2027 and Rp28.2 trillion in 2028. Totaling Rp100.1 trillion. This budget has been allocated across ministries, with the largest portion for infrastructure under the Public Works Ministry at Rp69 trillion over three years,” he added.
