DPR Aims to Complete Employment Bill Before October 2026
Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Nihayatul Wafiroh, affirmed that the discussion of the Employment Bill is targeted to be completed before October 2026. This target follows the deadline set by the Constitutional Court (MK) through Decision Number 168/PUU-XXI/2023.
According to Ninik, the DPR together with the government must complete the new labor regulation no later than October 2026, as mandated by the MK.
“The final deadline is indeed October, according to the Constitutional Court’s decision, so the discussion must be completed before that,” said Ninik in Jakarta, Friday (15/4).
In addition to implementing the MK’s decision, the acceleration of the discussion of the bill is also said to be related to the commitment of President Prabowo Subianto, which was conveyed during the commemoration of International Workers’ Day on May 1, 2026.
Ninik explained that the President had previously expressed his support for the new regulations related to labor to be completed together with the DPR RI.
During the DPR session from May 12 to July 21, 2026, Commission IX is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with various parties to gather input on the substance of the bill.
One of the parties that will be invited is the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo). According to Ninik, each business sector has different interests and views that need to be considered in the discussion of labor regulations.
In addition to business circles, Commission IX will also seek input from labor unions, labor organizations, and academics to enrich the discussion of the regulations.
“We will still invite other academics because previously only two people attended to provide input,” she said.
Previously, the Constitutional Court on October 31, 2024, decided that the government and the DPR should draft a new labor law and separate it from Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation.
In the decision, the MK gave a maximum of two years to the lawmakers to complete the new regulations. The MK also emphasized the importance of the active involvement of labor unions in the drafting process.
On the commemoration of Labor Day, May 1, 2026, President Prabowo stated that he had instructed the Minister of Labor and the Minister of Law and Human Rights to accelerate the discussion of the Employment Bill with the DPR RI. (Ant/P-3)
