DPD hopeful charged with falsifying data

MANADO, North Sulawesi: A prosecutor indicted on Thursday local resident Adnan for falsifying data while registering as a Regional Representative Council (DPD) candidate.

The trial, perhaps the first on election procedure violations, is being held in Manado District Court.

In the indictment, prosecutor Hans Kayadu said that defendant Adnan, 54, wrote on a registration form he filed with the North Sulawesi General Election Commission in August that he was not active in any political party.

But investigation by the commission found that he was listed as a Reform Star Party (PBR) expert staff member.

He was taken to court based on a lawsuit filed by the local North Sulawesi Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu).

The prosecutor said the defendant had violated Article 137 of Law No. 12 on general elections. The article carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in jail. -- JP
