Dozens of Women in Tegal and Karawang Trained and Provided with Business Capital Assistance
The fighting spirit of Kartini encourages women in Tegal Regency, Central Java, to become more economically independent through skills training based on home-based businesses. This effort was carried out by the Indonesia Setara Foundation in collaboration with Ruang Temu Asa Tegal through a baking and cooking workshop titled “Value-Added Banana Processing” on Thursday (23/4/2026). The event, held on Jalan Ir Juanda in Tegal Regency, was attended by 50 participants, mostly housewives. They were trained to make banana muffins and chocolate crepes filled with banana and cheese, two products with market potential using easily obtainable raw materials. In addition, they received business capital assistance and prizes from the Kartini Challenge from the Indonesia Setara Foundation. A similar training was also held in Cermin Timur, Sukakertama Subdistrict, Karawang Regency, West Java. The event, a collaboration between YIS and Skies Indonesia, was attended by 50 housewives. They were trained to make molten black sticky rice cake and Thai dessert. Founder of the Indonesia Setara Foundation, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, said the programme is part of women’s empowerment that has been run by his organisation for about 15 years. “Women need economic independence. Through this training, we want participants not only to have skills but also the courage to start a business,” he stated in a press release in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026). Representative of Ruang Temu Asa Tegal, Mujab, stated that women’s empowerment does not always have to be through the formal sector. According to him, household activities can become a source of income if managed creatively. “From the home kitchen, women can help the family economy. The key is willingness and creativity,” he said.
