Dozens of students from one of the state junior high schools in Jetis, Bantul, experienced symptoms of poisoning after consuming the free nutritious meal (MBG).

The Head of Disease Prevention at the Bantul Health Office, Samsu Aryanto, stated that the students initially consumed the MBG on Monday (13/4). The menu at that time consisted of rice, grilled chicken, mustard greens, fried tofu, and watermelon.

“Then this morning, several students felt symptoms of nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, and dizziness,” he told reporters on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

Upon learning of this, teachers immediately took the affected students to the Jetis 2 Health Centre. The number of students showing poisoning symptoms continued to increase.

“Based on reports from the Jetis 2 Health Centre, there are 71 students suspected of MBG poisoning,” he said.

Samsu noted that the students’ conditions are currently improving. He conveyed that no students required inpatient treatment.

“No one is hospitalised; only outpatient treatment,” he said.

Samsu continued that the Health Office is currently tracing whether there are other schools where students have experienced suspected MBG poisoning. This is because the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) supplies 25 schools, one of which is the SMPN in Jetis, Bantul.

“We are still conducting data collection at this time,” he said.
