Dozens of PSI Semarang Branch Officials Resign en Masse in Protest
Dozens of core officials from 12 branch leadership councils (DPC) of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) in Semarang have decided to resign from their positions. The move represents a form of protest and disappointment over the organisational structure of the PSI City Board (DPD) for Semarang, as ratified by the party’s Central Executive Board (DPP).
Hanif Navila Rozaq is among the officials who stepped down. He previously served as chairman of the PSI North Semarang branch. Hanif explained that the reason behind the resignations across the 12 PSI branch boards in Semarang was the discrepancy between the leadership structure agreed upon by branch officials and the one ratified by the national executive.
He explained that the structure agreed upon by all PSI branch officials in Semarang had selected Bangkit Mahanantiyo as chairman, Bayu Romawan as secretary, and Irwan Leokita as treasurer. “This leadership structure had been communicated to all branches, and the branches agreed to the composition,” Hanif told Republika on Monday (23 February 2026).
Hanif added that the selection process for the PSI Semarang city board had followed democratic procedures. “The selection was conducted using a one-man-one-vote scheme within the city board leadership, and that was the result,” he said.
However, in the decree issued by the PSI national executive, the core leadership structure of the PSI Semarang city board was altered. Hanif said that under the decree, Bangkit Mahanantiyo remained as chairman, but the secretary and treasurer positions were filled by Melly Pangestu and Aisyah Firdausa respectively.
According to Hanif, the decree regarding the PSI Semarang city board leadership was handed over during the PSI Congress held in Solo on 8 January 2026. He said that because of the changes to the city board structure, PSI branch officials in Semarang questioned the matter — not only with the city board, but also with the PSI Central Java provincial board (DPW) and the national executive.
“We asked the city board, but they knew nothing about it. I tried asking the provincial board, but they did not respond. We attempted to communicate and request dialogue with both the provincial and national boards, but there was no response,” Hanif said.
According to Hanif, the majority of PSI branch officials in Semarang reject the city board leadership decree approved by the national executive. This is primarily due to the inclusion of Melly Pangestu.
