Doyok gets one year jail term

TANGERANG (JP): Comedian Sudarmadji, popularly known as Doyok, was sentenced on Monday to a one-year jail term for illegal use of 0.5 grams of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine).

The Tangerang District Court, presided over by Rukmini also fined the 41-year-old lanky comedian Rp 1 million or serve an additional three months in jail.

The verdict was three months lighter than the sentence demanded by prosecutor Nandi Warsidi.

According to the court, the defendant was proven guilty of violating Article 62 of Law No. 5/1997 on Psychotropic Substances.

"A worsening factor was that the defendant tarnished the image of Indonesian artists," the judge said.

Doyok was picked up from his residence in Karawaci, Tangerang, on July 21 following the arrest of a friend identified as Rizal Indra Kresna, who sold the shabu-shabu to Doyok at the Jakarta Opera House on July 19.

Rizal has been sentenced to 16 months for illegally trafficking a total of 2.5 grams of shabu-shabu, 0.5 grams of which was bought by Doyok.

The lanky Doyok is very popular for his performances with comedian group Srimulat. Another Srimulat comedian, Polo, has been in police detention for a similar offense. (41/ylt)
