Don't Get It Wrong: Here's the Difference Between Annual and Five-Yearly STNK Tax and Renewal
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Many vehicle owners still do not understand the difference between the annual STNK validation and the five-yearly STNK renewal.
In fact, both have different functions, where the annual validation is related to the payment of vehicle tax (PKB), while the five-yearly renewal includes the replacement of the STNK and vehicle registration plate.
The Head of Traffic at the Demak Police, Central Java, AKP Thoriq Aziz, said that there is a fundamental difference between the annual STNK validation and the five-yearly renewal.
Herlina Ayu, Head of Public Relations at the DKI Jakarta Regional Financial Management Agency (Bapenda), said that the term often referred to as the five-yearly tax is actually not a tax.
“It is the cost of extending the STNK and replacing the vehicle registration plate (TNKB),” she told Kompas.com recently.
“As for the vehicle tax (PKB) itself, it is collected every year in accordance with the applicable regulations,” she added.
She also explained that during the five-yearly period, the STNK is validated and the TNKB is replaced.
“Meanwhile, Bapenda only collects PKB (Vehicle Tax) as a regional tax that is paid annually,” she said.
By understanding this difference, vehicle owners are expected to no longer misinterpret the five-yearly STNK renewal as a vehicle tax.
This is because vehicle tax is only collected annually through the PKB, while the five-yearly process is an administrative obligation in the form of STNK validation and replacement of the registration plate, which involves several cost components from related agencies.
