The provision of fresh fish aid serves as an intervention to enhance animal protein intake for children’s growth. Donggala (ANTARA) - The Regent of Donggala, Central Sulawesi, Vera Elena Laruni, stated that the distribution of 1.2 tonnes of fresh fish to the community is an effort to address stunting and extreme poverty in Malino and Lumbulama villages, South Banawa sub-district. When met in Banawa on Saturday, Vera Elena Laruni said the fresh fish and processed fishery aid aims to tackle stunting and extreme poverty in the area. “So, in addition to fresh fish, the aid consists of 708 packages of processed fishery products through the Donggala Regency Fisheries Service,” she said. She explained that the entire aid is given only to families in the high-risk category for stunting and extreme poverty. She stated that providing fresh fish aid is a form of intervention to increase animal protein intake for children’s growth. According to her, the programme prioritises and targets the most remote, outermost, and innermost areas in Donggala Regency. “The distribution of this aid is part of the local government’s commitment to improving community welfare, especially for families at risk of stunting and extreme poverty in remote areas,” she added. Vera mentioned that the aid recipients are based on data from poverty deciles 1 and 2 sourced from the Donggala Regency Development Planning Agency, ensuring the aid is on target. It is known that the extreme poverty rate in the area in 2024 reaches 47,680 people or equivalent to 15.30 per cent. Meanwhile, the stunting prevalence target in Donggala for 2026 is set at 24.3 per cent, and the 2025 stunting rate is 29.6 per cent.
