Donald Trump Threatens to Destroy Iran's Oil Refineries if Negotiations Fail
US President Donald Trump has issued a severe warning that he will destroy all of Iran’s energy infrastructure and power plants if a diplomatic agreement is not reached soon. Although he claims progress in talks to end the US-Israel conflict with Tehran, Trump emphasised that the US is prepared to take extreme military action if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately opened for business activities. “If for any reason an agreement is not reached soon, although it is very likely that it will be, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately opened for business, we will end our silence towards Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all their power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalination plants!),” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday (30/3/2026) local time. Previously, Iran stated there are no direct negotiations with the United States. The latest contacts are only messages delivered through intermediaries. Regional countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt, are attempting to act as mediators to reach an agreement. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that Islamabad is willing to host the talks. Trump added that indirect discussions conducted through Pakistani envoys show progress. “An agreement can be reached quite quickly,” he said. US-Israeli airstrikes on 28 February killed 1,340 people, including Iran’s then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. Those counterattacks caused casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
