Iran has adopted a firm stance ahead of the deadline set by US President Donald Trump regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. As the time limit approaches, Tehran shows no signs of backing down despite facing threats of destruction to its civilian infrastructure.

Iran’s military has strongly rejected Trump’s statement, which they deem provocative. They even described Trump as delusional and affirmed that operations against US and Israeli forces will continue.

“Arrogant rhetoric and baseless threats will not halt our operations,” stated Iran’s central command, Khatam Al-Anbiya.

Previously, Trump threatened to launch a major attack if Iran does not open the shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz by the deadline of Tuesday (7/4) at 8:00 PM Washington DC time, or Wednesday (8/4) morning WIB.

Trump described the plan as total destruction of Iran’s vital infrastructure.

“We have a plan where every bridge in Iran will be destroyed before midnight, and all power plants will stop operating, burned, exploded, and rendered unusable,” Trump said.

“I mean total destruction in four hours if we want it,” Trump added.

Amid this tension, fighting continues to spread in the region. Israel’s military reported a new wave of airstrikes targeting Iranian infrastructure in Tehran and surrounding areas. Iranian media also reported explosions heard in the capital and the Karaj region.

In retaliation, Iran is said to have launched missiles towards Israel. In the Gulf area, Bahrain activated air raid sirens, while the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia reported interception attempts against missiles and drones entering their territories.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts have yet to yield results. A proposal for a 45-day ceasefire mediated by several countries is considered to have failed.

Iranian media stated that Tehran rejects the ceasefire and demands a permanent resolution to the conflict. Tehran also seeks guarantees against future attacks and an end to Israeli strikes on Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

On the other hand, discussions have emerged about reopening the Strait of Hormuz under a new scheme, including the imposition of ship transit fees. However, no agreement has yet been reached to ease the tensions. (AFP/H-4)
