Philanthropic foundation Dompet Dhuafa has set a target of 36,000 sheep or goat equivalents for its 2026 Eid al-Adha sacrifice programme, according to Ali Bastoni, Chair of the 1447 Hijriyah Sacrifice Programme.

‘This means that for cattle, each is counted as seven, while sheep or goats count as one. Thus, we refer to the total as 36,000 sheep equivalents,’ Ali stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

The sacrificial animals will be distributed to areas with low meat consumption, 3T regions (remote, underdeveloped, and border areas), disaster-stricken zones, and Palestine.

Dompet Dhuafa is maximising its long-term empowerment partners and collaborating with local livestock breeders in target distribution areas.

‘As of this morning, we have already collected approximately 21,000 sheep equivalents,’ Ali said.

Notably, Ali added that donations for disaster-stricken areas such as Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have already been fully committed by muzaki.

For Palestine, the organisation aims to distribute around 300 cattle, which will be processed into canned meat.

Ali noted that despite economic pressures, Dompet Dhuafa’s sacrifice programme has grown in recent years, indicating strong public solidarity in Indonesia.

The increasing number of donors choosing Dompet Dhuafa reflects high trust in the foundation, he added.

‘Dompet Dhuafa’s sacrifice programme is well-managed, from preparation to slaughter, skinning, processing, and distribution to beneficiaries, all monitored through appropriate systems at all empowerment partners, with reports provided directly to donors,’ he said.

Meanwhile, senior artist Indrodjojo Kusumonegoro, commonly known as Indro Warkop, urged the public to spread kindness wherever and however possible, stating that animal sacrifice is not only a religious obligation but also a universal act of compassion.
