Dompet Dhuafa Provides Free Servicing for 1,447 Ojol Motorcycles During Ramadan, Supporting the Urban Economy
Ojek online (ojol) drivers are the backbone of urban mobility, connecting cities, delivering logistics and meals to customers’ doorsteps daily. However, behind this role the welfare of many ojol drivers still faces challenges, including limited earnings, long working hours and daily operating costs, which prevents the profession from guaranteeing stable economic prospects. In response, the Islamic philanthropic organisation Dompet Dhuafa, through its Institut Kemandirian, launched the Berkah Untuk Ojek Online (BerOjol) programme during Ramadan 1447 Hijri/2026 AD. The programme targets 1,447 ojol drivers in the Jakarta–Bogor–Depok–Tangerang–Bekasi (Jabodetabek) area by providing free vehicle servicing. The inaugural servicing event was held at Lotte Grosir Ciputat, Tangerang, on Sunday 1 March 2026. Recipients are drivers officially registered as ojol partners and with net monthly income of less than Rp3 million. “The programme is supported by Paragoncorp, which is expected to service 200 ojol motorcycles,” a spokesperson said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on 4 March 2026. The event was also attended by Aldi Taher to encourage ojol drivers to utilise the servicing, particularly as Ramadan increases demand. BerOjol not only targets drivers but also engages 20 small workshop partners as part of efforts to boost service provision by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The servicing is spread across locations including Promatic Bekasi, Promatic Tangerang, Promatic Jakarta Timur, and 20 workshop partners in Depok and Bogor. Through this scheme, Dompet Dhuafa hopes the economic circulation benefits not only ojol drivers but also small workshop operators in the Jabodetabek area. Herdiansyah noted that the programme originated from zakat funds channelled to provide sustainable benefits to the dhuafa through training and empowerment. For information, the Institut Kemandirian Dompet Dhuafa is a vocational training and entrepreneurship centre focused on empowering the dhuafa, school-leavers, and people with disabilities. Participants receive hard skills and soft skills training, such as automotive technology, digital live selling, and barista, to create a workforce ready for employment or entrepreneurship.
