Bekasi - The enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Act (UU PPRT) has received a positive response from the public. Several residents assess the regulation as important for providing protection and job certainty for household assistants (ART). One of them was expressed by Rendy Putra (28), a resident of North Bekasi, who claims to support the policy. According to him, several points in the UU PPRT, such as the provision of holiday allowances (THR), leave rights, and social security, are indeed supposed to be implemented by employers. Rendy claims to have implemented several of those things in his working relationship with his ART, starting from granting days off to flexibility in permissions in emergency conditions. “If they want to pray, they pray; if in the afternoon they want to eat, they eat. Sometimes I also invite them to eat together,” he said. In addition, Rendy claims to routinely give THR and bonuses as a form of appreciation for the ART’s performance. He is also beginning to consider registering his ART with BPJS after receiving information that domestic workers are included in the vulnerable worker category. Meanwhile, Kurnia Dwi Hapsari (37), a resident of West Bekasi, claims to approve the enactment of the UU PPRT and has even implemented several points of the regulation for a long time. “I agree, yes. In fact, I have implemented it before this UU existed. And from the beginning, I always conveyed openly regarding the type of work, number of family members, to working hours,” said Kurnia. She mentioned that wage agreements become the main thing discussed from the beginning, as well as the basis for performance evaluation.
