Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The number of domestic investors continues to rise, now reaching 26.7 million. Interestingly, more than half of the total come from the younger demographic. The executive head of the Capital Market Supervisory, Derivatives, and Carbon Exchange at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Hasan Fawzi, said during a public lecture at Malahayati University, Bandar Lampung, on Tuesday. The event was part of the Integrated Capital Market Socialisation and Education (SEPMT) 2026 in Bandar Lampung, held 18-19 May 2026. “The most encouraging thing is that the majority of these investors come from the younger age group. No less than 54% of Indonesia’s capital market investors are under 30. It means the younger generation, including students, will be the main drivers of Indonesia’s capital market now and in the future,” Hasan said in a press release, Wednesday (20 May 2026). Meanwhile, the number of stock market investors in Lampung Province was about 614,000 investors, placing Lampung ninth nationally. According to Hasan, amid the development of digital technology and global uncertainty, the public needs to have adequate investment literacy to make prudent financial decisions. Hasan also noted that, based on the 2025 National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK), Indonesia’s capital market literacy stands at just 17.78%. “This is, of course, our joint challenge, because literacy levels are still limited, there will be gaps that can be exploited by those with bad intentions to offer bogus or fake investments or to commit fraud,” Hasan said. Hasan also emphasised the importance of public vigilance against various forms of digital financial fraud that are developing rapidly today. “If there is an investment offer, first check whether it is legal. Does the party offering have a licence? Is the product registered with the OJK or the relevant authority? Then, is it logical? If the returns offered are too high, too good to be true, and not plausible, then we must be wary,” Hasan said. The OJK said it would continue to strengthen the domestic investor base through improving literacy and financial inclusion in the capital market, especially among the younger generation who are expected to be the main drivers of Indonesia’s capital market going forward.
