Does Feeling Full Disrupt Concentration and Cause Drowsiness While Driving?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Iftar often becomes a time for “revenge” after a day of enduring hunger and thirst. Many people end up overeating, leaving them feeling overly full.
The problem is, after the stomach is full, drowsiness sets in. This condition is risky, especially if someone still has to continue their journey and drive home.
So, what exactly causes fullness to trigger drowsiness?
Annisa Nurul Kirana, M.Gizi, SpGK, says that after eating, the digestive system works to process food so that it can be absorbed by the body.
“As a result, blood flow is more focused on the digestive system. When blood flow is focused on the digestive system, the amount of oxygen reaching the brain is reduced, causing drowsiness,” said Annisa.
Annisa added that food that is too high in calories is not good for the body. She advises maintaining a balanced intake of nutrients during fasting so that the body remains in prime condition and focus while driving during Ramadan is maintained.
