Document for Chinese descend

From Kompas

As a person of Chinese descend I was completely startled by the Jakarta Metropolitan Administration's (DKI) policy concerning documentation needed for citizens of Chinese descend. To move from Central Jakarta to North Jakarta, for example, I have to change our K-I paper (document required for Jakarta residents of Chinese descend) besides the other papers necessary for relocation to a new area. The K-I paper is only required in DKI as a control device over citizens of Chinese descend.

Why is this harsh rule imposed on us, as if we were dangerous people threatening the security of Jakarta? Our families have been living in Indonesia for five generations. I have participated in two general elections. We speak Bahasa Indonesia. We have Indonesian education including Pancasila Morality, Indonesian History, and other subjects related to Indonesian patriotism. Even my wife is a native Indonesian. In short, I feel I'm made in Indonesia, body and soul. Why should I be put under such strict control?

Other certificates such as my identity card, marriage certificate etc. should be enough to prove that I have all the legal documents required. Therefore, I suggest that the K-I form be excluded from the documents needed for administrative purposes within the jurisdiction of Jakarta. This will surely help the government's program of assimilating citizens of Chinese descend and native Indonesians.
