Pulang Pisau (ANTARA) - The Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK) of Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan, is conducting oversight of independent waste and wastewater management at the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) to meet health quality standards.

“Ssorting and management of household waste at the SPPG must be carried out independently so that it is no longer directly disposed of at the Temporary Disposal Site (TPS) or Final Disposal Site (TPA),” said the Head of the Pulang Pisau Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK), Godfridson, in Pulang Pisau on Wednesday.

According to him, the main source of waste at the SPPG comes from household activities, particularly in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, thus requiring an appropriate handling pattern through sorting and sustainable processing.

“The waste produced at this SPPG is mostly household waste, so sorting between organic and inorganic waste is necessary,” he explained.

“The wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) at SPPG Bereng has been well constructed and meets standards, but waste management is still not optimal and is still directly disposed of at the TPS,” he stated.

He mentioned that organic waste processing can be done with the help of decomposer microorganisms such as M4 to accelerate the decomposition process and reduce unpleasant odours.

This education targets 40 housewives working as volunteers at the SPPG so that they can directly practise waste management at home.

“I also hope that they can pass on this knowledge to their neighbours if household waste can still be processed and utilised,” he said.

He hopes that through this education, the community can understand the importance of good waste governance, including sorting between organic and inorganic waste as the initial step in processing.

According to Godfridson, with the optimisation of IPAL management and the implementation of household waste processing, the local government is optimistic about creating a cleaner and healthier environment in Pulang Pisau.
