DLH: Waste in Cimahi Increases by Up to 40 Percent During Ramadan 1447 H
Cimahi (ANTARA) - The Environmental Agency (DLH) of Cimahi City, West Java, states that daily waste production has experienced a significant spike due to the increased consumption by the community during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.
The Head of the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Cimahi City, Chanifah Listyarini, in Cimahi on Thursday, said that waste production, which normally ranges around 250 tons per day, has increased by 30-40 percent during Ramadan.
“It is very high, the increase is very high. The waste increase is approximately almost 30-40 percent. Now it can be more than 300 tons every day during this fasting month,” she said when contacted.
According to Chanifah, this rise in waste production impacts the accelerated fulfilment of the disposal quota to the Regional Final Waste Processing and Processing Site (TPPAS) Sarimukti in Cipatat, West Bandung Regency.
This situation occurs given the policy of limiting the waste disposal quota issued by the West Java Provincial Government, which has not seen an addition in accordance with the Circular Letter of the West Java Provincial Regional Secretary Number 6174/PBLS.04/DLH regarding Warnings and Restrictions on Waste Disposal to the TPPAS Regional Sarimukti.
“The quota that should last 14 days now only suffices for 10 days,” she said.
She stated that this has caused waste accumulation at several temporary collection points (TPS) in the Cimahi City area.
Her side also urges the community to carry out waste sorting from home to reduce the management burden.
“Automatically, waste piles continue to accumulate. Because disposal to Sarimukti today we cannot add trips like last year, so we must ration the trips given for two weeks,” she said.
